Book Tag: Would You Rather...?

This tag has recently been completed by one of the booktubers I watch, Priscilla of The Readables. Some of these questions were easy, and some had me in a complete emotional dilemma.

1. Read only trilogies or stand-alones?

I’ve read some amazing trilogies in the past but for this one I’d have to go with stand-alones. Provided that the first book in a trilogy (The Hunger Games, Feed etc) counted as a stand-alone.

2. Read only female or male authors?

In an attempt to avoid any gender politics attached to this question, I checked my favourites shelf on. Goodreads to see if they were mostly written by male or female authors.

I have six favourites. Guess what. Three are male and three are female. Sigh.

Off the top of my head then, I’m going to have to go with female because of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Feed, Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Help.

Sorry Five People You Meet in Heaven…

3. Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?

Amazon. Mostly because I’ve never actually shopped at Barnes & Noble.

4. All books become movies or TV shows?

TV shows without question. There are some really good film adaptations but TV shows allow so much more time for characters and plots to be developed properly. They tend to be more loyal to the canon text without being a direct copy as well. And you can include chapter/book cliffhangers much more easily and make it that much more exciting.

Can you tell I’m loving Game of Thrones right now?

5. Would you rather read five pages per day or five books per week?

Five books per week. Screw socialisation!

6. Be a professional book reviewer or author?

Author. Next question.

7. Only read your top favourite 20 books over and over again or new books you haven’t read before?

My absolute favourite feeling is reading the first few pages of a new novel and thinking; this is going to take over my life. I’m not going to eat or sleep until I’ve read the final page. I must tell absolutely everyone I know in life about this book. Every other book can go suck it because this one just won everything.

I couldn’t give that feeling up. Even for my favourite reads.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

I’d hate to see people in a bookshop feeling guilty for trying to sneak a read. I’d want to scatter bean bags around and bring people mugs of hot chocolate and have in-depth discussions about character development with regulars… all of which sounds way more like a library. Librarian!

9. Only read your favourite genre or every genre except your favourite?

Although reading only one genre would feel VERY restrictive, I’d have to say just my favourite (dystopian). At least genre definitions are fairly broad nowadays. I’d get at least a little variation.

10. Only read physical books or ebooks?

I love my Kindle. I do. But it doesn’t smell half as good as my bookshelf.
